My Grand Canyon Road Trip Adventure!!!

grand canyon, fashion, style, Bright Angel Trail

Happy Thursday!!!

In this post I wanted to share with y’all about our trip to the Grand Canyon. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. I highly recommend everyone go see it at least once. I remember when we first got there; we parked and then walked over to the edge to go get our first real look at it. It was breath taking, it looked so perfect it almost looked fake, like someone had taken a picture out of a travel book and enlarged it.

That was one of my favorite places I have ever been and my husband and I definitely plan to go back. We went during the last part of August/ early September last year (2017). We had been planning this trip for over a year. We saved every penny we could and PAYED FOR IT ALL WITH CASH!

It seems like a big task to save like that, but we followed a savings plan on Pinterest. The pin was actually a plan to save for Disney World but it worked for the Grand Canyon too. My husband also has a side business on Ebay that really helped our savings.

So how much did we save? We saved close to 5,000 if I remember correctly. However most of that was going to go towards hotels and gas. And YES we actually drove to the Grand Canyon all the way from Indiana!! And YES we actually had fun and didn’t kill each other. 😉

We actually rented a car, which my mother-in-law helped us pay for. She said it would make her feel more comfortable having us driving in a newer car verses my husbands ’05 truck or my ’00 cavalier. We got an upgrade from Enterprise and rented a Buick Enclave. It made the trip so much nicer! Heated seats, separate switches so each person could decide what they wanted the AC on, and tons of extra room. Now looking back, if we ever make the trip again, we would budget for renting a car.

The first day we traveled 19 hours! We left early Sunday morning. We were so excited, which is probably why we actually made it 19 hours in a car. We drove through St. Louis, which had lots of interesting sights including the famous Arch to see. We stopped and got Starbucks here. Missouri was a very pretty state and reminded me a lot of Tennessee. We got to see the Route 66 Welcome center, which was a fun pit stop!

Route 66, Missouri

We continued on through Oklahoma, which actually started to get kind of boring, sorry Oklahoma! Also lots of tolls, which we are not use to in Indiana. I took about an hour nap while driving through Oklahoma.

Next was onto Amarillo Texas, which was actually kind of boring as well, when you first entered Texas. But the further you got in, the more you got to see windmills! It made for very pretty scenery as the sun was sitting!

In the distance, we could see lightening for what looked like miles and miles away. But it eventually, it caught up to us and we got caught in a Texas rainstorm. Hurricane Harvey was just a few weeks earlier so there were still flood signs up for that. I hate driving in rain, so I just closed my eyes and prayed we would make it to our hotel soon.

Finally we stopped for the night, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. We always stop at Holiday Inns, my husband and I find we like those the best. One thing nice about the trip is we gained some hours from switching from Eastern Time to Mountain.

On Monday our goal was to make it to Flag Staff Arizona. On our way there we actually stopped at the Petrified Forest!

Petrified Forest

The first stop on the trail is so pretty! However, the wind was blowing so bad I felt like I was yelling at my husband to talk to him. I guess being super windy there is not uncommon. Overall the whole thing was unique to see, but my husband and I were so tired from the day before. I’m not sure we enjoyed as much as we would have, if we had had more sleep.

Petrified Forest

A couple hours outside flagstaff we stopped and saw a meteor crater, which we actually liked more than the Petrified Forest. Highly recommend making this pit stop!

meteor, crater, AZ

Finally at our destination in Flag Staff, we stopped and picked up a gluten free pizza from Dominos and got some snacks from Whole Foods for the rest of our trip. We both ate gluten free and vegetarian the whole trip!

Flagstaff was beautiful! It was a nice size town, that I actually wouldn’t mind living in! We left that morning and headed for the Grand Canyon. We initially were planning on going to the north side and walking across the glass bridge. But as I did more research while we were driving, I found out that the north side was actually owned by an Indian Reservation and it was quite pricy to go there. You had to pay for parking, then ride a bus to the bridge, then pay to go on the bridge; you had to pay to have your picture taken because you weren’t allowed to bring cameras. After thinking about it, my husband and I decided we would like to spend our money on others things. Wish we had made this decision sooner, before we had drove halfway there. Lesson learned!

Finally arriving at the Grand Canyon, the check in to the park did not take long, and the lady at the gate was very friendly! Driving into the park my husband said it felt a little like Jurassic World, since we were watching out for elk and deer.

We stayed at the El Tovar hotel at the park. I believe it is the nicest hotel there.

El Tovar Hotel, Grand Canyon, AZ

I highly recommend staying here to get the full experience! It is an older hotel so don’t expect 2017 luxuries. I actually made a video completely showing the room in my last VLOG, check it out here!

Quick review of the room- bed was comfy, small fridge, decent size TV, very nice relatively large bathroom, however very bad Wi-Fi but who needs Wi-Fi when you’re at the Grand Canyon!

The first day there, we ordered gluten free pancakes to the room, and they were delicious! All the gluten free food there was actually really good! I was surprised how many gluten free options they had! We walked around the park to the different shops and did a little sight seeing.

One thing we quickly learned is that we were not use to the elevation, and even walking up a slight hill felt like I was in the worst shape of my life. So one tip I have is to take it easy the first day and get use to the elevation change.

That day, we did the bus tour around the park, which I recommend! It was great to sight see without having to do all the walking.

Battle Ship Rock, Grand Canyon, AZ

The bus systems they have is really helpful, some take you sight seeing and some take you to the little grocery store they have and visitor center.

That evening we drove 20 minutes outside the park to Tusayan, and we did a jeep tour, which was probably my favorite thing we did! It was a sunset tour. We started by driving through the Kaibab National Forest. We had a great tour guide; he showed lots of things about the plants and wildlife. We did not see any wildlife till the end, which was a huge Elk.

During tour, they take you to a huge tower, where you can climb to the top and look out.

Grand Canyon, AZ

My husband and I actually hate heights so we went up a little and then called it quits! To end the tour, the guide takes you to a spot to over look the canyon and watch the sun go down. It really was a sight to see!

Our last full day at the Canyon, we did a little sight seeing again around the El Tovar Hotel. We actually walked part of the Bright Angel Trail.

They recommend that you do not hike all the way down and back up in a day, because it’s too much for one day. Whenever, we go back this is one thing my husband and I would like to do!

We ended the night eating some Tortilla Gluten free soup they had at one of the hotel restaurants. It was delicious and my favorite thing to eat there, I ate it almost every day! We watched the sun go down over the Canyon for our last night there.

The next morning we left early and said out good byes to the canyon. We headed towards Colorado, another stop we wanted to make before we went home. I believe it was about a ten-hour drive from the canyon. The closer you got to Denver Colorado, the prettier the drive became.  Click here to watch the Vlog of our drive!

However, the elevation continued to make us sick. We stopped at a Wal-Mart before we got to our hotel and picked up a few items including an oxygen boost container to hold up to your mouth and get some fresh air.

We stayed at a very nice hotel in downtown Denver that my husband surprised me with. Hotel Teatro. It was probably the nicest hotel I ever stayed at in my life! It had a nice big bathtub that I enjoyed to finally relax in.

The next morning we slept in and tried to rest from all our traveling. We did walk a few blocks though in Denver and got our picture taken with the mile high stair!

Mile high, Denver, Colorado, state capital

That night we ate at a yummy place (I forget the name) but it had the best gluten free veggie burger I had ever had in my life! It was at the 16th Street Mall.

Gluten free, veggie, burger, vegetarian, denver, colorado

One thing about downtown Denver I learned it is full of a variety of interesting people and very busy. We hope to go back to Denver Colorado, but probably will never go back towards Downtown.   My husband and I are more nature loving, small town folk.

The following day we drove all the way from Denver back to Indianapolis, a twelve to fourteen hour drive. The only thing I really remember about that drive is that Kansas took forever to drive across and not a lot to look at there.

The trip was the most fun trip I had ever been on and I was so thankful to do it with my husband who is my best friend. We hope to one day go back here. There is so much to do and we had so little time only having a week to travel across the country and back.

We stayed in budget with our trip that includes gas, hotel, food, gifts, and activities. If y’all would like to know more about our budget, let me know!

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. I hope to see every state of the U.S. I hope this blog is not too long, its one of my favorite memories to talk about. I wanted to share as many details as I could if you are planning on going.

VALENTINES QUICK GET READY WITH ME & OOTD!

Valentines OOTD

Happy Early Valentines Day!!! Even though Valentines Day is over commercialized, I still think it is a really sweet day. My husband and I are going out this coming Saturday to celebrate early. We never go out on Valentines Day because we both hate crowds. Any one else agree?

So I wanted to share with y’all how I get ready for Valentines Day. And I wanted to make it as quick as possible. I just don’t like taking an hour to get ready anymore and for me, the more natural, the better. Also the main reason is Valentines Day is on a Wednesday, and unless you don’t have to work that day, you really don’t want to take a long time to get ready.

So I am just going to work with the make up that I applied that morning: foundation, blush, eyebrow gel, and mascara.

I’m going to start by redoing my blush, because it has probably worn off by the end of the day. I recommend using the Tarte Amazon Clay Blush in the shade Party.  I love the shade and it does seem to last awhile on my skin!

If you’re looking for a cheaper option, I also enjoy the Milani Powder Blush in Tea Rose.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbsUJjXO7Vw

Check out my YouTube video to watch me get ready!

My last step for my make up is the Burt’s Bees Lipstick in 510 Iced Iris. I love Burt’s Bees products. They always help my lips and this is a beautiful slight pink shade.

My Valentines outfit, I fell in love with a couple weeks ago at Target. I saw the shirt and skirt together and had to buy it!

I love the shade of pink the skirt is, and I believe it was $22. I recently went to target and they had put the skirt on clearance so they might not even have it anymore.

I thought it looked perfect with the striped top (which was just $12.99!). Pair this with black booties and my denim jacket and I think it’s a perfect Valentines outfit!

I hope you guys enjoyed my quick and easy get ready with me. I love feeling comfortable enough with myself knowing that I don’t always have to try to so hard to be perfect or to have so much make up on. I can be natural and just be me!

Happy Valentines Day! Last recommendation- if you haven’t seen the movie Valentines Day, which has several famous actors/actresses in it, I highly recommend it! It’s a sweet funny movie and a tradition that I watch every year! 😉

GLUTEN FREE & DAIRY FREE SKIN CARE…IT WORKS!!!

gluten free, dairy free, skin care

Happy Wednesday! We’re half way through the week! I’m excited for this coming weekend; my husband and I are celebrating Valentines Day early. We both hate crowds so we try to actually avoid eating out on the 14th. It’s much nicer just to stay home and spend time snuggling watching a movie.

Today, I wanted to share with y’all how I got my skin so clear. Let me go ahead and throw this out there I am neither a doctor nor a skin care professional. This is just stuff that works for me!

Growing up I had a few bad flare-ups but for the most part I got a couple yucky looking pimples on my skin during that time of the month. And it was always on my chin. I tried a bunch of different face wash from the drugstore, as well as pimple creams and masks. While they did help some, my pimples still continued to happen.

So I kind of just learned to deal with it. I would just have to wash my face at least twice a day, make sure to use oil free moisturizer, and have my pimple cream on hand for when I got one.

clarisonic, mia, skin care

One of the first things I bought that actually really started helping my skin is my Mia Clarisonic Cleansing Brush. Using this just once a day I noticed my skin was getting clearer and feeling cleaner. I highly recommend this. I don’t have any of the new fancy ones; I think mine is about $130 bucks. But I have had mine for close to 5 years now and it still works great! So worth the investment! You do have to buy new heads for it every three months. I have bought some at Ulta and you can even find some cheap on amazon!

Now the big thing that completely cleared my skin up, started about a year ago. I BECAME GLUTEN FREE AND MOSTLY DAIRY FREE. Gluten started to really irritate my stomach so I decided to stop eating it. I also came off dairy. I had heard before that coming off dairy can help with acne, and with my skin it really does! Now I still eat ice cream or chips and cheese from Qdoba every now and then, but not on a regular basis.

So to make it all clear I do not have any wheat at all unless it says gluten free, no dairy milk, cheese, and I even gave up caffeine… including coffee! I know crazy, right?

What do I eat instead? Gluten free grains like brown rice, quinoa, and gluten free noodles. I drink almond milk instead of dairy. And I get a decaf white chocolate mocha with coconut milk and no whip about once a week. Can’t fully give up Starbucks 😉

Since I have come off gluten and dairy, I have noticed that sometimes its okay if I don’t have time to wash my face in the morning. AND I DON’T GET A BREAK OUT!?! Now I don’t recommend doing that all the time, because my face does feel a little more oily when I do that, but its so nice now not really worrying about pimples.

Not only did my skin clear up, my husband did this as well. Before he had some pretty serious back acne and nothing helped. Once he did this, his back is almost completely clear!!! Now he has the occasional flare up, but guess what? He flares up when he has gluten or too much dairy…what a shocker! 😉

For regular skin care all I use is the First Aid Beauty face cleanser and my Belif aqua bomb moisturizer.

So that’s all my tips on skin care:

  • Find a good cleanser (I recommend Clarisonic)
  • Try being gluten and dairy free

Try it for a month, see what happens. 😉

3 Cute, Comfy Looks for the Super Bowl!

cute, comfy, outfits, superbowl

Well Super Bowl Sunday is upon us. I honestly didn’t even know who was playing till I looked it up yesterday. While I am no expert in the sport I can watch the game and have a decent idea about what’s going on.

But Super Bowl Sunday is more than just a sport, or at least that’s how I grew up. Super Bowl Sunday means family and friend gatherings and delicious unhealthy food. Also who doesn’t love the half time show and the commercials!?

Since often times growing up I was either going to hang out with friends or being at a church event (anyone else’s church do a Super Bowl Party?). I feel the need to dress somewhat cute for the event.

So I wanted to share with y’all 3 outfits I recommend for the up coming Super Bowl events. Now my main criteria to these outfits and, to my life in general, is that

  1. It has to be cute.
  2. It HAS to be comfy (who wants to wear something uncomfortable while there are eating pizza?)

So I went through my closet and this is what I found.

Option 1-

I wanted this outfit to be a little sportier. So I always pick my pants first and I love these pants. I got them from Old Navy and I wear them on a weekly basis. They are a cute sporty pant. They remind me of a skinny jean but without all the tightness.

My top, surprise! Is also from Old Navy. It’s just a cute flannel top that I love to pair with a tank or tee underneath. Pair this outfit with a cute pair of boots or some TOMS and I’m good to go! I love this outfit because it is so comfy and looks like I actually tried to put myself somewhat together!

Option 2-

Like I said, I did not even know who was playing in this Super Bowl until I looked it up yesterday. And I actually don’t have any Eagles or Patriots fan attire. So we will just have to get a little creative with this one!

So for this outfit I reached for my denim skirt (also from Old Navy). I have always loved denim skirts, and I’m glad they are starting to make a come back. I love how you can dress them down or dress them up; they can work for summer or winter.

For this outfit I thought you could pair the denim skirt with any of your fan attire and really dress it up. You could pair it with a jersey, with team color tops, team scarf, or tights. I think by doing it this way it still lets you support your team but adds a girly side to football!

Option 3-

This is more than likely going to be my attire, but now that I’m married I find it more fun just to stay home sometimes! I love these Victoria Secret Pink pants. Also I thought I would keep up with the sporty scene of the day and wear my WKU comfy shirt.

My plans will most likely be to wear this outfit all day, eat some pizza, and to watch the game with my hubby from home. Happy Super Bowl Weekend!

FRESH IN 15! GET READY WITH ME!

fresh in 15 get ready with me

Hey guys! I am so excited for it to be the weekend. I don’t have any real big plans but to chill out at home…but that’s how you know you’re an adult…when you’re excited to stay home all day. 😉

So I recently did a challenge called the Fresh in Fifteen. I found this challenge on YouTube and I wasn’t for sure I could actually fully get ready in just 15 minutes. I mean skin care, hair care, make up and all. But I did it, and I’m actually really glad I did.

As I’ve grown older I’ve notice getting ready doesn’t take me as long. I don’t have to always wear eye shadow or have perfectly straight hair. I’m learning to love my look of no make up and just letting my hair do its natural thing.

fresh in 15 get ready with me

In this challenge I share with you everything I use from my skin care to make up. Click here if you would like to watch it on YouTube!

So I always start getting ready by making sure my face is washed, and I have religiously been using the first aid beauty face wash. I LOVE this stuff, I have repurchased this probably 4 times by now. I love how gentle it is on my skin and how clean it makes my face feel. It is about $20 but each bottle usually lasts a couple of months.

belif, first aid beauty

Next, I have to have to moisturize, if I don’t my skin feels so irritated. I have been using the Belif True Cream – Aqua Bomb (make sure you get the gel not the cream if you have oily skin!) I also love this stuff; I have been using this for months just like the first aid beauty cleanser. While using this stuff and watching what all I eat, my skin has never been clearer! I believe this moisturizer is about $40 and also lasts a couple of months.

My make up products have been the same for months too, once you find something that works great, its hard to change… So let me go through this part quickly.

  • Benefit Porefessional Primer – Love! Sometimes I wear it even when I’m not wearing makeup.
  • Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation – color N10 – Now that I’ve been wearing powder foundation so much, I don’t know if I could ever go back to liquid. But my favorite liquid foundation is the Covergirl 3-in-1; I’m the lightest shade 😉
  • LAQA & CO. Blush Highlighter- Got this in a Birch box (I have a video if you want to check it out, CLICK HERE ! ) I’ve been using this since I’ve gotten it and I am really enjoying it.
  • Maybelline Brow Drama – shade: soft brown- I like simple eye browns, don’t have the patience to pencil my brows all in. 😉
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes – This is the mascara I use when I want my lashes to be noticeable but still look natural. Also my eyelashes have a real bad clumping problem, but with this they do great and look more spread out!
  • Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm – Berry Busy – My last blog post was actually about this, go check it out! Love how simple it is with a good color payoff.
  • L’Oreal Infallible Make up extender Spray – I don’t know if this is just a mind game or this stuff actually really helps my make up last longer… but it makes me feel better when I use it. I would love to find a more natural one if y’all have any suggestions!

So I can apply all that (I actually think I did my whole make up part in just 6-7 minutes alone!) and curl my hair with a curling wand in just 15 minutes. Pretty proud of myself, and it makes my husband happy that I can get ready that quick. 😉

I don’t want this blog post to get too long but I do want to end it on more of an important lesson I think I have learned. Growing up I have always loved the beauty world and spending time getting ready. There is nothing wrong with that. But like I said, as I have aged simple, natural, and easy have become what I look for. I think a lot of that has to do with my faith.

I was created by a creator that loves me and loves me just the way I am. Make up, mascara, and lip gloss doesn’t truly make me beautiful. Reflecting the character of Christ does.

The Bible says in Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”

I do not think fear here is used that we should be afraid of the Lord, but rather that we should honor and respect Him.

The world is going to tell you that you need all these extra products to tell you that you are beautiful. But the Bible tells us that beauty is passing, it isn’t always going to be with us. That is earthly beauty of course. But true beauty kindness, gentleness, patience, and faith those are with us forever, as we try to continue working on them.

So that is what I have learned, that I enjoy my outwardly look being simple and easy… And I want people to look at my heart and see beauty by reflecting character of Christ.

ARROW BOOST COLORING ENHANCING LIP BALM!?!

arrow boost color enhancing lip balm

I walk into my bedroom after my husband gets home one evening and as I am scanning my eyes across the room I notice a cute orange box sitting on my nightstand.

It was my second Birch Box that my husband had purchased for me from Christmas. He got some kind of deal from Birch Box of 3 boxes for a certain amount. Anyway, back to the point, how in the world he snuck this box in the house I still have no idea but the fact that he tries so hard to surprise me, makes me a happy wife!

I had remembered from an email that I was allowed to pick one item out of this box and I had picked the Arrow BOOST color enhancing Lip Balm. I don’t even remember what the other option was but this product had such a cute unique design that I had to pick it.

arrow boost color enhancing lip balm

One thing that won me over with this lip balm is that it claimed to only enhance your lips natural color while hydrating your lips.

This winter weather is killing my lips and I’m not big on wearing lipstick all the time. So I open the product and I expect a little color but mostly for it to be like chapstick….

Man was I in shock!  With in a few moments it had turned to a very pretty and shiny pink berry color on my lips. Not only that, but later in the day I noticed my lips didn’t seem as chapped! This lip balm won me over, and I even tried it on my husband, which he wasn’t very amused ;). But it worked on him too! He ended up being a lighter shade than what had shown up on my lips.  I wish I had gotten pictures of this but oh well, forever in my memory!

The regular price for this ARROW BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm in Berry Busy is $14 for a full size one. It claims to hydrate and adjust to your lips PH balance. (Which explains why my husband and I were two different colors).

CLICK HERE for my YouTube page if you want to see my video review of this product!

It seems that this product is only being sold by Birch Box as of right now. They have one other lip color in Blush Hour, which I might consider buying 😉 The brand does seem to have an eye trio as well as other skin care items!

I hope this review was helpful! I rarely ever brag about lip products but I had to share this one. Until next time!
